Story Girl: 7 October

 Story Girl
Celebrating the power of girls in folk tale, myth and true story.

Come join us in celebrating with story the International Day of the Girl Child (Day of the Girl). This day is observed annually in October to highlight issues concerning the gender inequality facing young girls. Declared by the United Nations, in 2012, the aim is to raise awareness of the importance of nurturing girls globally and in developing countries in particular.

The 2017 theme: “The Power of the Adolescent Girl: Vision for 2030.”

Storytelling Australia Victoria members received an open invitation to bring along a story to share that honours girls and they responded with enthusiasm.

Come hear from the storytellers:
  • Alex and Miles Kharnam
  • Roslyn Quin
  • Suzanne Sandow
  • Dee Palanisamy
  • Kate Lawrence
  • Katherine Jones
  • Louisa John-Krol
  • Lily-Anne Matthews-Fabian
Our host is Kate Lawrence from Storytelling Vic. Kate is also the creator of Story Wise Women, the only Women’s storytelling night in Melbourne (in the Good Room as it happens!)

*Bring your little sister, daughter, niece and young friends; at Story Girl, we want to hear girl’s voices.

This idea for Story Girl came from a seed sown and a relationship nurtured by Story Vic member Teena Hartnett. Teena attended at evening at The Good Room and was touched by the compassion and vision of the founders, Gracie and Katrina Lolicato.
